Verses I will talk about in the post:

1. Psalms 91: 2-4

  • 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

  • 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

  • 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

2. Romans 8: 28

  • 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

3. Luke 4: 9-12

  • 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

  • 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

  • 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

  • 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

This word right here >TRUST< is pretty much an essential thing for a Christian. This is a BIG thing I see everywhere...the lack of trust we have in our lord today. I know multiple Christians who don't seem to trust their own Heavenly Father. I have probably written this post about five or more times because there is so much to say about this.

First thing is that trust is a daily thing. I don't think I am perfectly able to go through my everyday life without giving my troubled thoughts and emotions to God (obviously this is more of a personal battle I deal with). However, it's not a fairytale "make a wish" and it will disappear. It's a habit. Psalms 91: 2-4 talks about God being our protector. He has our back all day, everyday. We don't appreciate Him enough for being our body guard. Reading further into the verses, verse four says, "...His truth shall be thy shield and buckler". Here we can make the connection on the words "His truth". His truth as we know is talking about His word. He gave us His truth and access to his word through the Bible. God doesn't supernaturally intervein and magically place us where we need to be. We can see an example of this when Satan wanted Jesus in Luke 4: 9-12 to practically cast himself off a temple, thus tempting Jesus to test God before Jesus hit the ground. As you can see in verse 12 Jesus recited the word back and didn't jump. Our daily protection on a firsthand level against the world is the word. So as I've said before, it's very important as a Christian (especially in today's world) to read your Bible. How can we fully trust God when we don't know what He promises? In Romans 8:28 Paul tells us that everything works out according to God's plan, not our plan.

One of the greatest examples we have is Job. Job was one of God's most righteous. Imagine being wealthy, having a great marriage, and plenty of kids (as Job had seven), life is full. BUT Job ended up being tested (important note: God is not the one who tempted Job and He is not the one who placed all of these bad things on Job. That was Satan, God just allowed Job to be tested because He knew what Job can/can't handle). Anyways, Job lost everything. He lost all of his children, he lost all of his livestock (which back then was the source of income), and in addition to loss he conjured illnesses and had his friends and his wife turn on him. Even when he was stripped of everything, Job still did not turn away from God. He questioned God and asked Him very reasonable questions like "what did I do wrong?" but in the end he still spoke rightly of God when his friends and wife didn't. We don't even go through half of what Job did and yet some Christians still think God is unjust or just not doing his job. Trust needs to be developed into a habit. We're born sinners, so it's not going to come easy, that's why God emphasizes the act of understanding and growing in our knowledge. Do you trust someone you just met? Probably not. You have to get to know them, especially when they promise you eternal life.

It time for us as Christians to show the world that we not only believe in an all mighty God, but also trust Him like we did when we accepted Jesus into our hearts. He is the same God now as He was in ancient times.
